Sports Drinks

Sugar is a top ingredient for many sports and energy drinks. Even though they sound healthy and may be helpful for young athletes, they are mostly unnecessary according to the American Academy of Paediatrics. Make sure you check the label and your drink of choice is low in sugar before consuming them. Remember, water is always the healthiest choice!

 

Hard Candies

They may seem harmless however constant exposure to sugar can be harmful to your teeth. In addition, they may cause broken or chipped teeth. If you are looking for an alternative, you may prefer sugarless gum.

 

Ice

Surprisingly, many people think that ice is good for their teeth. It may be made of water, however, chewing tough substances may cause vulnerability for your teeth and dental emergencies like enamel damage.

 

Acidic Foods

Frequent citrus intake may cause enamel erosion and decays over time. You should always be careful while consuming these kinds of drinks.

 

Sticky foods

Many people prefer dried fruits as healthy options when it comes to snacks however, they are usually sticky and they can damage your teeth since they tend to stay on teeth. Please make sure to rinse your mouth with water after consuming dried fruit or any kind of sticky food. You may even need to brush and floss carefully.

 

Coffee/Tea

Coffee and tea may seem like healthy beverage choices however caffeinated coffee and tea can dry out your mouth and consuming too much coffee or tea during a day cause stains on your teeth. In addition, many people add sugar to these beverages which are harmful to your oral health as stated above.

 

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption causes dehydration and dry mouth. Consuming alcohol excessively reduces saliva flow over time which leads to several tooth decays, gum diseases and other oral infections. Alcoholism increases your risk of mouth cancer as well.
